As if we needed any more reasons to love The Obamas

The Very Very Normal Reason Sasha Obama Wasn’t At Her Dad’s Farewell Speech

Last night, as we slept, President Obama returned to his hometown of Chicago to deliver an extremely poignant and emotional farewell speech to mark the end of his eight years in office.

Aside from highlighting the many successes, and setbacks, of his time as President and declaring the hopes he holds for Trump’s America: Obama, in true Obama style, also said some really, really, lovely things about his ‘girl from the south side’ Michelle and their daughters, Malia and Sasha.

‘Malia and Sasha, under the strangest of circumstances, you have become two amazing young women; smart and beautiful, but more importantly, kind and thoughtful and full of passion.’ beamed Obama ‘And of all that I have done in my life, I am most proud to be your dad.’

Waaaaahhh…we’re welling up already.

But wait?... Where’s Sasha?...

Had she stayed at home to set up Home Alone-style traps for Donald’s impending arrival? Were tickets to the President’s final farewell so hot, Obama could only manage to get his hands on the two? Or, like the rest of us, had Sasha locked herself in her bedroom, crawled under the duvet and attempted to pretend that none of this Trump-as-President stuff is really happening?

After hours of online speculation, an official correspondent for the White House confirmed that the sophomore student had in fact stayed at home in DC to prepare for a school exam the next morning.

While the fifteen-year old’s decision to miss her father’s final speech as the leader of the free world in order to stay home and revise may make us feel sliiiiightly guilty about neglecting the preparation for our Monday morning deadline to stay up and watch five consecutive episodes of The Crown, it has also completely confirmed what we all already knew: The Obamas are, without a doubt, the most adorably ordinary and down-to-earth First Family to ever grace the White House and the world will be a much worse place without them there.

We are also now strikingly aware that we never have a justifiable excuse for skiving off work ever again. So thanks, Sash.
