Organisers of the Miss Moscow pageant have been accused of fixing the winner, after the winning teen was deemed too ugly to have won by Twitter users.
According to a spokesman for the contest, 18-year-old Irina Alexeyeva won based on her abilities as a ballerina and her sense of style, but fans of the competition were enraged that her looks did not live up to their idea of a beauty queen.
Following her win, Tweets were posted calling the art student ‘ugly’ and comparing her looks to the Manchester United footballer Aleksandr Kokorin, and one saying Conchita is ‘much prettier.’
Irina competed against 27 other girls in the contest, the theme of which was ‘Moscow is the best city on earth.’ The contest included a swimsuit portion, an evening gown portion and two dance numbers, which was deciding factor in Irina’s win.
Judge Alex Ovechkin said: ‘The young lady did everything properly. She did everything right in her solo number. She chose the correct dress and everything else.’
