New favourite website alert! (Other than The Debrief obvs.) School of Doodle is billed by its founders as ‘an online high school for imagination’. Erm, what? Yeah, we weren’t sure either, so we jumped on in and had a look.

The website’s promo video calls teen girls ‘the most incredible invention ever’ – which quite frankly is something we wish we’d been told at the time. The website’s aim is ‘to build girls’ imaginations and teach them to be loud – a place where girls connect, create and celebrate their curiousity’. In essence it’s going to be an online platform to teach teenage girls how to be creative in fashion, film, photography, filmmaking, art, writing... The list goes on.

The way in which School Of Doodle is set to work is threefold; a user can ‘Dabble’, which means explore their way around the different subjects on offer before jumping in head first. If a user is dead set on the industry they love, they can ‘Dig’, or cut to the chase and head over to the specific category they want to research to learn, create and share their interests with other girls. The next step is to ‘Do’, in which you can ‘teach a lesson, share a tip and show your stuff’.

Basically, the whole thing sounds a lot like an online community of TED talks for teenage girls.

What’s the incentive to get involved (other than learning great skills, of course)? Well, participants are going to get paid in ‘Doodle Dollars’ which – rather than being real money, help them buy products that ‘aid imagination’, live chats with experts and ‘special field trips’ which sound very intriguing.

The website is currently raising money on Kickstarter to get itself off the ground and, with help from people like Yoko Ono, Sarah Silverman, Sia and Sophie Amoruso investing, they’ve already raised $107,130 (£81,400).

Also, the voiceover on the promo video? Natasha Lyonne from OITNB. Other people involved are Arianna Huffington, Derek Blasberg, Marina Abramovich, Salman Rushdie – who all sound just a little a bit more interesting than your average GSCE teacher, right?
