We’re not sure whether to congratulate ourselves or hang our heads in shame, as Netflix have released a binge-scale revealing how much time we actually spend glued to our screens.
In days of old we painstakingly anticipated our weekly dose of TV drama to find out whodunnit, but now Netflix members have over 100 complete series readily available to binge on whenever they choose. Netflix have examined our viewing habits of these serialized TV programmes and Netflix Original series across 190 countries and have found that, on average, we complete an entire season of our favourite show in just one week. Is that a challenge?
The scale categorized shows into ones which we 'devour' i.e. induce a Netflix-and-No Chill-type coma, and programmes we choose to 'savour.' It revealed that, for gripping thrillers such as Bloodline and dramatic comedies like Orange is the New Black, we spend over two hours a day hooked to our screens, determined to finish the series. However, surprisingly political dramas including the Netflix Original House of Cards, take us a little longer to get through. Perhaps it is a little too much brain power for our box-set bashed brains to process in one sitting.
In the meantime, I’ve got an all-day meeting with season 1-5 of Breaking Bad scheduled.
