We hate to be the bearers of bad news but your daily Netflix and chill sessions just got a bit more expensive. The changes are immediate for new subscribers but existing accounts will be given 30 days notice before the price changes - and the change will be rolled out over the course of several months, so make the most of it while you can.
Prices are also set to rise in Germany and France, with Canada and Latin America having already experienced an increase in cost.

Luckily for us, the change in price plans won’t be too hefty. The basic plan is £6 a month, a price that isn’t set to be increased by the changes. The next plan available is the standard which offers HD streaming as well as the ability to watch from two separate devices. This is currently £7.50 a month but the changes will see it rise to £8 a month.
For the big spenders out there, the premium option allows you to watch 4k content on four different devices and is being upped an entire pound meaning the monthly cost will be set at £10.
Netflix released a statement regarding the price increase. ‘From time to time, Netflix plans and pricing are adjusted as we add more exclusive TV shows and movies, introduce new product features and improve the overall Netflix experience to help members find something great to watch even faster.’
The streaming company have spent a huge amount of money on creating original shows recently such as Stranger Things and House of Cards, which is one justification for the rise in cost. Netflix are also facing more competition than ever with companies like Amazon offering similar streaming services.
With the price increase, Netflix also ‘promises 40 feature films this year ranging from "big-budget popcorn films to grassroots independent cinema"’. One of which, named Mudbound, stars Mary J Blige and is said to be ‘a contender for the Academy Awards. It would be the first Netflix feature to be in the Oscars race.’
