It’s a sign of the wild times we live in that Netflix now literally ruins people’s relationships. ‘Netflix cheating’ – as verified by that fact-checker of all things millennial, Urban Dictionary, is the official title for watching ahead on a series that you’d agreed to watch together.
A survey by Netflix found that 21% of people in a relationship have watched ahead in a series whilst the other half was asleep, and a snakey 12% have pre-watched episodes and then pretended not to have seen it.
Now ice cream giant Cornetto is offering the perfect wearable tech solution to your binge-watching woes.
The ‘Commitment Rings’ use Near Field Communication technology (NFC) to link to each other, and work with an app that prevents you from being able to watch a series that you’ve selected if you are not with your partner.
Once the rings (and you two) are snuggled up together, you can continue your OITNB marathon with no spoilers and no one laughing too loud at all the jokes because they’re overcompensating having already watched it.
Cornetto are in partnership with streaming services such as Amazon Prime, Netflix and Hulu with the rings and app expected to be on sale soon.
Just don’t break up within 6 months of using the rings. Then you won’t be able to spite-binge either.
