In just over a decade since her debut novel, Naomi Alderman has been crowned the winner of this year's Baileys Women's Prize For Fiction for her fourth book The Power.

The feminist science fiction follows the lives of four women each navigating a new world in which women are able to electrocute people at will. It explores the consequences of what would happen if women did have all of the power - the power to destroy and cause pain - in much the same way men are often posited to today.

Tessa Ross, Chair of Judges, said: 'The judges and I were thrilled to make this decision. We debated this wonderful shortlist for many hours but kept returning to Naomi Alderman’s brilliantly imagined dystopia – her big ideas and her fantastic imagination.'

She joins the likes of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Lionel Shriver and Zadie Smith in winning the presitigious award, which comes with a £30,000 prize.

Now in its 22nd year, the prize is unique in that it is the UK's only annual book award celebrating excellence in women’s writing from around the world.
