This Mother-Daughter Tampon Text Thread Is Millennial Motherhood At Its Finest

As a society, we’re not great at talking about periods.

Women are getting better. We’ve reached a point where we can proudly admit we’ve synced up, complain unabashedly about crippling cramps or even describe smells as “like a sweaty period…” But mention a period to a man, and you’ll likely see the fastest transformation to a stuttering, frowning and shushing-you little boy slowly curling himself around the door and leaving the room.

Let’s hope the boys catch up soon, ‘cuz talking about periods is hysterical. Case in point: this Mother-Daughter dream team from Arkansas. If you recall the first time you flew solo to buy your very own box of “feminine hygiene products,” you’ll remember: It’s a stressful time. Waiting at the till, with the blue box that might as well be shouting “I’M A WOMAN NOW!”… palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy.

But what if the supermarket was so afraid of publicising periods, they hid the tampons in a secret place? Well that’s what happened when this Arkansas mum sent her 13-year old daughter into a shop tout seul to buy her very first box of tampons. I mean, we don’t doubt your first time buying period plugs was memorable, but in no way was it this epic.

Read their hilarious conversation below, and bask in the glow of menstrual sisterhood, sarcasm and the denunciation of the patriarchy.

Anyone whose daughter text-yells at them about tampons, while they talk condoms, lube and smashing the patriarchy, totally deserves the ‘Best Mum Of 2016’ Award in our books, hands down.

Also, we can’t wait to live in a world where periods aren't actually a big deal – why don’t we have a big vagina section in our local Sainsburys? Genius.

Also also, how cool is it that her daughter was totally chill with her sharing these texts on Facebook? Seriously heartwarming teen confidence and #MotherDaughterRelationshipGoals right there.
