If you saw an advertisment online specifically asking for 'women who have never seen their vagina before', would you respond to it? Surprisingly a lot of women did, when YouTube personality Davey Waveyposted it on Craigslist (the American equivalent of GumTree). He then wanted to live film the reactions of these women looking 'up there' for the first time.
Our first question was why has this dude Davey Wavey asked for this in the first place; it seems a bit strange at first, no? After some digging it turns out that Davey makes a whole stream of YouTube videos of a similar nature, and in his words "use his platform to spread a message of love, acceptance and the occassional penis joke". Davey is also one of the leading online voices for the gay and lesbian community and recognised for his authentic tone. He's done similiar videos such as 'What Gay Guys Think About Vaginas', but this time he wanted women's opinions on their own vaginas.
The video features the women explaining why they hadn't look down there before and answers are funny and some really heartfelt and serious. Davey then sets up the 'Vagina Booth' in which the ladies are given a very large mirror with 'one side magnified' to their horror. Their reactions are very different, from 'I've realised it's just a normal vagina, I don't know what I was freaking out about', to 'she (aka the vagina) looks like an old bald-headed man' to 'my vagina looks more innocent than what I imagined it to be.'
This video appears to have succeeded in doing exactly what it intended to do, raise awareness of the importance of being au fait with your own body parts and on top of that: getting rid of any shame or embarassement when having a good old look.
