Gender reveals have firmly become part of the 21st-century parenting journey. While once you had simply to decide whether to wait until your due date to know the sex of your baby, now you have the option of whether to shower your nearest and dearest with pink or blue fireworks, balloons, confetti, or cake to announce the big boy or girl baby news.
And one father in the US couldn’t hold back his disappointment during the gender reveal for his third child, when an umbrella full of pink confetti announced he was expecting a third daughter. ‘'F***!'’ he immediately yelled as he stormed out of the TikTok video posted by his wife (@kc.fulton) who was left holding their one- and three-year-old daughters on her own.
Groaning and pouting, he continued to yell 'f***!' over the fact he wasn’t getting a son — big Henry the Eighth energy. Meanwhile, his wife smiled (‘I swear he’s happy’ she wrote in the caption) and children (yes, he was swearing in front of them) jigged around happily at the news they were expecting another sister.
The whole thing was seriously uncomfortable and TikTok users were quick to call the military man out on his problematic reaction. 'He should be ashamed of himself for that reaction. Grown man throwing a tantrum like that,' wrote one user. ‘That video was PAINFUL to watch,’ added another. ‘I cannot imagine having a father that was disappointed in me before I was born. His reaction was alarming.’
The outrage then spread to Twitter, where more alarmed users asked: ‘What do you think it’s communicating to the other little girls when their dad reacts like this? It communicates to me that the world is lucky this Dad is not going to be raising a boy who will end up like him.’
Meanwhile, another woman lamented: 'Man, this just makes me sad. I don’t know how women choose men like this and look past it; I’d rather be alone.’
And we have to agree. A baby is a blessing that many people aren’t lucky enough to have - this man shouldn’t have ruined the happy moment occasion of a gender reveal by, if you will, throwing his toys out of the pram.
But @kc.fulton has defended her husband on TikTok by uploading a follow-up video of her partner smiling and playing with his two daughters. ‘He loves ALL of his girls and they love him,’ she wrote. ‘He has loved his babies since the second he found out we were having them! He IS a good dad. #proudgirldad #daddysgirls.’
