This Is How Long You've Got To Spend Your Old Pound Coins. But It Isn't That Simple...

Be prepared for chaos on March 28. There’s less than a month to go until the new twelve-sided pound coin will come into force, but it seems that there's more to worry about than just how to spend your old ones.

According to the Mirror, 100,000 street and pay-and-display ticket machines won’t be updated to accept the new pound coin until around May. And if you thought that was bad, there’s 200,000 vending machines in leisure centres, shopping malls and stations that won’t be able to accept the new coin in time either. Does this mean sneaky post-workout Mars bars could be a thing of the past?

The old pound coin ceases to be legal tender on October 15 as the new un-forgeable coin takes reign, but the government are encouraging everyone to spend all their oldies now. They even reckon that there’s a shocking £82 million worth of them stashed away.

Our advice? Don’t spend them in too much of a hurry. Save them up for parking tickets, Diet Cokes and Skittles in case your local machine just can’t handle it. But DO make sure you’ve spent them all before October 15, or whenever your vending machine catches up with the coin revolution.
