Unlike most plastic dolls, the Lammily goes through what real girls go through. We're not just talking about walking in heels. This brunette doll has the proportions of an average 19 year old woman and has acne, cellulite, stretch marks, freckles and glasses. Now she's going through what all girls go through - she's got her first period.

Lammily have released a 'period party pack' which includes a reusable pad sticker to put in the dolls' knickers, a pamphlet about periods and a calendar with dot stickers so you can keep track of her cycle. This is a key step in being open in talking about our periods.

Lammily creator Nickolay Lamm said to TIME: “I don’t want to make this a whole political project or anything, but I think when [Trump] said that it was just an example of the overall culture where menstruation is very taboo, and not only taboo, but some people use it as an insult.”

Last month Kiran Gandhi, the drummer who ran the London marathon while 'free-bleeding,' wrote a piece for Graziaabout why we must end the stigma around periods. She wrote: 'We shouldn’t be ashamed of our bodies or menstruation. All over the world, attitudes towards periods perpetuate oppression – whether that’s girls in Uganda who miss out on their education once per month because they’re unable to go to school when they’re bleeding,
or Donald Trump using periods as an indicator of weakness to try to bring down a powerful woman, as he did recently.'
