It's been less than three years since the final instalment of the* Twilight* franchise hit cinemas, leaving teens everywhere at a loss. But thanks to our recent obsession with TV and film nostalgia - even for not-long over series - leading lady Kristen Stewart is already fielding questions about a potential reboot of the series.
Asked about whether she'd be down with a new version of Twilight, featuring an original cast, she said in an interview for Uproxx “Yeah, sure. To be honest with you: I would be interested. I’d be kind of fascinated, but it wouldn’t emotionally affect me one way or the other.”
But as for her reprising the role of Bella Swan - that's a no. "I was so genuinely, heavily entrenched in [Twilight] and not in a way that felt like an obligation. Even though after the first one, which stood alone, it lasted a long time. It's hard to speak to a five-year period in a few sentences, but I loved doing it."
Just recently, Kristen admitted that her time in Twilight became"traumatic" after pictures emerged of her with Rupert Sanderson. She told Marie Claire US: "I lit my universe on fire and I watched it burn. Speaking very candidly, it was a really traumatic period in my early 20s that kick-started something in me that was a bit more… feral.”
And speaking to Uproxx, she mused further on the downside of starring in a popular franchise and how it's affected her reputation as an actress: “I think if you’re in a really popular thing, [like Twilight] it gives people license to criticize you. Not because of the thing for which they are criticizing you, which is not being good for whatever the person is doing in the thing, but just by virtue of that thing being very successful, and it’s human instinct to take down that what is successful.
“I also feel that anything overtly popular in the United States feels entirely owned by the public, therefore if they don’t deem it worthy, then they’re like, ‘We put you here,‘” Stewart continues. “And if you do not bend over and give us absolutely everything we want, then we need to let you know.”
