"My body is the site of a miracle now," Kerry Washington proclaims in the latest issue of health magazine Self as an explanation of why she's not interested in going "back" to her pre-baby figure.
The Scandal star gave birth to a daughter named Isabelle in April 2014, and while she covers the magazine looking strong and slim, she makes clear that she works out to be her best self, not to regain the figure she had before giving birth.
"A few weeks ago, my manager asked: 'Do you feel like you're back? I feel like you're back.' She meant it as a total compliment, but we had this great conversation where I was like, 'You know what? I try really hard not to use that language, because it's not about going backward in life," she explains.
"I've been really focused on not being 'back' to anything, but being the best version of myself right now. My body is the site of a miracle now. I don't want to be pre-miracle."
Kerry explains that she enjoyed working out to maintain a healthy and happy lifestyle, fitting in early morning pilates so she can be back with her daughter as soon as possible. "I have to take care of myself in order to live life the way I want to. It's important to have rest days. But in the long run, if I don't work out for, like, three days, I feel worse, not better."
When many stars are quizzed about how they worked out to regain their pre-baby bodies, they're left little room to discuss and celebrate the fact that their body has gone through major change due to bringing a life into the world. So it's refreshing to hear Kerry explain why she's not interested in going "back", only forward. Bravo!
