John Lewis’s Christmas Advert Will Make You Call Your Grandparents Right Now

The countdown to Christmas has begun, and it’s marked with an almost spiritual – and now traditional – cleansing of the tear ducts, if John Lewis’s new advert is anything to go by.

Set to the Oasis track Half the World Away – which, for reasons of twee-ness, is not sung by Noel Gallagher but a woman with a child-like voice – it’s the story of a girl trying to get in touch with an old man who lives on the moon.

We don’t want to spoil it all for you, but let it be known that the ad was made in conjunction with Age UK, and the encouragement – besides wanting to buy a ridiculous amount of things from John Lewis, regardless of whether you can actually afford it there – is to ‘show someone they’re loved this Christmas.’

In lieu of waiting for your next pay cheque/John Lewis delivery to arrive, once you’ve mopped up all the tears, if you’ve still got grandparents, give them a call. If only so they can laugh at you, bewildered that kids today would get all soppy over a TV advert. Oh, and if you don’t, get in touch with Age UK.
