Twenty-five MPs are set to join forces with well-known musicians on Thursday to produce a charity single in memory of late MP Jo Cox.

The tribute will be given by former colleagues Sir Greg Knight, Kevin Brennan, Ian Cawsey and Pete Wishart who are a part of parliamentary band MP4.

They will be joined in the studio by Suzi Quatro, KT Tunstall, David Gray, the Kaiser Chiefs’ Ricky Wilson, and Cockney Rebel’s frontman Steve Harley.

The group will cover the Rolling Stones’ You Can’t Always Get What You Want in collaboration with the Parliament Choir and the Thurrock Community Choir.

The band’s spokesman, Robin Millar told The Guardian, “The team, led by Kevin, who is [a] shadow culture minister, has the full support of the Jo Cox Foundation, and wants the maximum exposure for the event next Thursday and for the single release next year.”

Jo Cox was murdered in June outside Birstall Library in West Yorkshire whilst making her way to the MP’s constituency surgery. The 41-year-old was attacked with a knife and shot three times by Thomas Mair.

The 52-year-old was charged with her murder and will go on trial later today at the Old Bailey.

The charity single is set to be released in the new year by Kobalt Music and will raise money for the Jo Cox Foundation.
