Jay Z’s Artist Alexa Goddard Is Back With Her New Single

Alexa Goddard is the fresh faced pop stunner on the scene. It was after posting videos of her singing on YouTube, she was picked up by Jay Z’s record label Roc Nation (who also look after Rihanna and Kanye West) and quickly released two catchy, upbeat singles So There and Marylin and now she’s back with her heartfelt song We Broke The Sky{ =nofollow}.

We caught up with the star to find out more:

What was it like getting offered a deal by Roc Nation?

I never in a million years thought I would get a record deal from putting videos up on YouTube. When I met with Roc Nation and they offered me the deal it was crazy, it didn’t feel like it was real. Two and a half years down the line it still doesn’t feel real that I was able to get a deal off of putting videos up on YouTube.

Who are your musical influences?

I’m influenced by so many different types of music. I grew up loving Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Tina Turner, Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, I was always really influenced by female singers. Female vocalists really fascinate me, I love women who can really sing.

What is the meaning behind your new single ‘We Broke The Sky’?

The song was written by Kirby Lauryen (co-writer of Rihanna & Kanye West's – FourFiveSeconds) and I sat and talked with her for a few hours and explained what I wanted to say. The first time I heard it I cried. The first thing I thought of was my parents. I always think about the saying 'The sky’s the limit'. We Broke The Sky explores the idea of a realm beyond that and overcoming things. My parents have overcome a lot, they have loads of health issues, my dad passed away 18 months ago, thank God he got to hear the song.
