Fifty Shades of Grey co-stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson must be feeling the pressure as the countdown begins for the release of one of the most highly-anticipated films of the year.

The Sam-Taylor-Johnson directed movie, adapted from the hugely successful book trilogy, will be watched by millions of fans desperate to see the pair sizzle on-screen as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele.

Hopefully hard-core Fifty-Shaders won’t be disappointed as it’s being reported that there’s more than a little tension between Jamie and Dakota. Although there’s nothing concrete to suggest that they do actually dislike each other, fans have noted their uncomfortable stances when they've been together at various events and photo-shoots. This does not bode well for a film that relies on the lead characters having incredible chemistry from the get-go.

Let's look at the evidence...

The pair presented an award at this year’s Golden Globes and both adopted the austere hands-behind-the-back pose favoured by the likes of Prince Charles. Hardly explosive stuff:

Then there was this awkward promo shot:

And possibly the un-sexiest interview ever:

But before you write the film off and cancel your pre-booked tickets (we know you’ve done it), remember: they could just be shy guys ...or fed up of seeing each other after months of filming and promo.

Plus, even if they hated each other it doesn't mean that would necessarily translate on the big screen - there have been plenty tales of actors who hated each other off-screen but made it work in the film. Let’s take a look back at some famous co-star feuds...

Feuding Co-Stars

Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams1 of 12

Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams

They may have dated for three years after filming wrapped but while on set of the Notebook, Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams did not get on at all. Director Nick Cassavetes revealed that at one point things were so bad that Ryan tried to get Rachel replaced with another actress! He said: "[Ryan's] doing a scene with Rachel and he says, 'Would you take her out of here and bring in another actress to read off-camera with me?' I said, 'What?' He says, 'I can't. I can't do it with her. I'm just not getting anything from this."

Bill Murray and Lucy Liu2 of 12

Bill Murray apparently stopped mid-scene to tell Lucy Liu that she couldn't act during filming of Charlie's Angels. Although he's never admitted to the incident, Bill did once say: "Look, I will dismiss you completely if you are unprofessional and working with me. When our relationship is professional, and you're not getting that done, forget it." Murray was replaced with Bernie Mac for the film's sequel but he and Liu have put the incident behind them.

Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy3 of 12

Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy

Shia LaBeouf took the method approach to acting whilst filming Lawless, drinking excessively in order to get into his alcoholic character. Things got so out of hand at one stage that Shia knocked out co-star Tom Hardy after a joke the two shared went wrong. Hardy said later of the incident: "I got knocked out by Shia LaBeouf, actually. [It was] behind the scenes. Out cold. He's a bad, bad boy. He is. He's quite intimidating as well. He's a scary dude… He just attacked me. He was drinking moonshine."

LL Cool J and Jamie Foxx4 of 12

LL Cool J and Jamie Foxx got a little too physical while filming American football movie Any Given Sunday with Al Pacino. The two got in a fight after Cool J purposefully hit Foxx in the head with a ball during a scene. Foxx fought back, resulting in a huge brawl that had to be broken up by police.

Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey5 of 12

It would seem Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey did not have the Time Of Their Lives whilst filming Dirty Dancing. In his autobiography, the late Swayze wrote about how he was annoyed by Grey's unprofessional attitude on set, claiming she would burst into tears at any criticism, get into "silly moods" and disrupt filming by laughing too much.

Richard Gere and Debra Winger6 of 12

He was meant to be playing a Gentleman but Debra Winger was not convinced by co-star Richard Gere while filming An Officer and a Gentleman. She apparently hated shooting the movie and described Gere as "a brick wall".

As 90s show The X-Files became more and more succesful, the relationship between stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson became more and more tense. Duchovny said of his co-star: "We used to argue about nothing. We couldn't stand the sight of each other." The pair reunited for a film version of the series, with Duchovny saying he wound up signing on because he wanted to bury the hatchet.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes8 of 12

They were acting out one of the greatest love stories ever told in Romeo & Juliet but there was nothing but animosity between Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. Leo enjoyed playing pranks on the cast and crew but Claire couldn't stand to be around him, branding him "very immature." He fired back, telling Danes she was too uptight.

Freddie Prinze Jr. and Kiefer Sutherland9 of 12

90s heartthrob Freddie Prinze Jr. blasted former 24 co-star Kiefer Sutherland, saying he made him want to quit acting. Freddie said in an interview: "Kiefer was the most unprofessional dude in the world. That's not me talking trash, I'd say it to his face, I think everyone that's worked with him has said that."

Will Smith and Janet Hubert10 of 12

Remember how The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air's Aunt Viv changed after the first series? According to the actress who played the original Viv, Will Smith was to blame. Jane Hubert was fired in 1993 and replaced by Daphne Reid, apparently by Smith's instructions. She called the actor an "egomaniac" and says he's the reason she would never do a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reunion.

Naya Rivera and Lea Michele11 of 12

Naya Rivera and Lea Michele

Lea Michele apparently wanted Naya Rivera off Glee so much that Ryan Murphy had to write her out of the final two episodes of the show's fifth season. Although she's never confirmed the rumours, Naya did not return for Glee's sixth and final season.

Teri Hatcher and Everyone12 of 12

Teri Hatcher and Everyone

Though the Desperate Housewives ladies were best friends on-screen, behind-the-scenes this was not the case. After the infamous Vanity Fair shoot, where the cast fell out due to Hatcher being placed front and centre, Eva Longoria described Hatcher as "the loner" of the group. Her name was even left off of the "goodbye gift" to the crew when the series ended.
