Instagram is all about square photos, right? WRONG. The social network have just announced a game-changing move - they are allowing users - in addition to square posts - to share photos and videos in portrait and landscape sizes.
This means you don't have to use those photo editing apps to make your non-square pics fit. Or crop people out of your photo you really didn't want to (sorry Mum).
So why the change? Instagram revealed that the move made sense because nearly one in five photos or videos people post aren’t in the square format.
We've had a sneak peek at the new format, and it actually looks pretty amazing on your feed - but your profile remains the same, with a square layout.
"Square format has been and always will be part of who we are. That said, the visual story you're trying to tell should always come first, and we want to make it simple and fun for you to share moments just the way you want to" Instagram said.
"Now, when choosing a photo or video, you can tap the format icon to adjust the orientation to portrait or landscape instead of square. Once you share the photo, the full-sized version of it will appear to all of your followers in feed in a beautiful, natural way. To keep the clean feel of your profile grid, your post will appear there as a centre-cropped square."
It sounds pretty simple, and we can't wait to try this new feature out!
