It feels like we’ve been waiting our whole lives for this and it’s finally here (sorta!). Instagram just announced that they’re trialling a new shopping feature which allows users to directly purchase items through the app. Our bank balances are getting lighter just thinking about it.

The photo-sharing app announced the new feature today and has said that the roll-out in test phase will begin in the US as early as next week. They’ve partnered with 20 retailers – including Kate Spade, JackThreads and Warby Parker – for this latest venture into the world of online shopping.

'Right now, there isn’t a simple, clean way for us to share details about the products featured within our posts,' said Dave Gilboa, co-founder and co-CEO of glasses retailer, Warby Parker, in a statement.

'Customers often have to ask us, which creates a bulky experience on both sides. We love how seamlessly integrated and consumer-centric this new experience is.'

Shoppable posts will include a ‘tap to view’ icon on the left of the picture. By clicking on this, tags will then appear on all purchasable products, including prices and product information – brands can add up to five different tags on every post. Once you tap a specific item’s tag, a window will open showing a new image of the item and offering a ‘shop now’ option where you can buy it directly from the brand’s site. No other apps are involved. Hurrah!

The excitement doesn’t end there though, according to USA Today, Instagram are also going to trial other retail related features such as saving items to buy at a later date and product recommendations.
