Indonesian Cleric Condemns Women Taking Selfies. Indonesian Women React Beautifully.

Don't tell Indonesian Muslim women that they can't take selfies.

Religious speaker Felix Siauw took to Twitter yesterday to outline a 17-point manifesto against Muslim women taking selfies, but those aforementioned women aren’t taking it lying down. Unless they’re lying down while taking selfies.

Yep, in response to Felix’s statement, ‘If we take a selfie, sift through and choose our best pose, and then we’re awed and impressed by our selves – worryingly, that’s called PRIDE’, Indonesian women trolled him right out of town with selfies under the hashtag #Selfie4Siauw.

Under Muslim law, taking pictures of animate things (as well as drawing or painting them) is forbidden, with the Qu’ran stating: ‘Those who will be most severely punished by Allaah on the Day of Resurrection will be the image-makers’.

But nobody back then could have foreseen the invention of cameras. And times change, so ancient scriptures need to be updated, otherwise we’d have loads of Christians crying because they accidentally said the words ‘Oh my God’ or coveted someone’s iPad. And nobody would be gay.

Also, the selfie stick was reportedly invented in Indonesia, so it’s an even bigger deal over there than it is here. Take THAT Felix ‘if we take a selfie and we feel cooler and better than others – we’ve fallen into the worst sin of all, ARROGANCE’ Siauw. Get with the times.

Anyway, check out the #Selfie4Siauw craze that’s spreading across social media today, and get involved yerself (guys are even getting involved, which is nice):
