The unsubtle battle between Instagram Stories and Snapchat has been going for a little while now. Snapchat was at its peak and then Insta dropped the Stories bomb. Snapchat filters were still the one (hold tight basic dog ears), but then Instagram gave us Boomerang, Superzoom and its own (not so great) selection of filters.

But now Instagram have gone and one-upped team Snap by offering another feature to Stories for everyone to play around with for a day or two – GIFs. Yes, GIFs.

You can now paste teeny tiny GIF on top of whatever you've decided to take a picture on. And the catalogue of options is way stronger than Instragram's usual emoji offerings - the little animated bundles of joy come straight from Giphy (the same GIF service that you'll probably have somewhere in your Apple iPhone keyboard, or on Twitter).

If you want to have a go youreself, tap the sparkly emoji icon at the bottom of the screen or swipe up from the Insta Story camera view *before *taking a picture and you'll find several new options. You've got the classic 'turn your chin into a face' filter, or (my personal favourite) 'turn your mouth into an endless trippy tunnel of doom' feature. Enjoy.
