House of Lords Digital Skills Peer Is So Digital She’s Never Heard of Google Maps

It's not like she was representing our views in Westminster or anything, y'know.

Lady O'Cathain is a member of the House of Lords and part of the Digital Skills Committee. This means she's responsible for, among other things, putting across our digital views to the house. In a recent debate, she basically admitted she had no idea what Google Maps is or aerial photography. Excuse us while we let out a huge sigh that sounds across the land and right into the stagnant bowels of the House of Lords. Apols for the imagery.

Expressing her horror at being able to see her own garden on Google Maps, the Baroness said: 'It was on a Google map or something, and I have no idea how it was taken. It was taken from up there. Obviously it was not a large aircraft, but this is happening. It did not fill me with a sense of security.’

Digital Skills Committee. Aerial photography. Satellites. Can we reiterate that this was said why Lady O'Cathain was discussing how to regulate drones. She is currently representing our views and making digital decisions that will change our lives. Or rather, she's saying mad things while the House of Commons make digital decisions that wil change lives; it's not as if the House of Lords are particularly relevant, or as influential as they once were. But it's still her job to discuss the digital world. And she doesn't know what a Google map is.
