London is FINALLY getting a 24/7 tube service on Friday and Saturday nights, bringing our capital's transport system more in line with that of other major cities like New York and Berlin. From Saturday 12th September onwards, we'll no longer be forced to wait, shivering in the rain, for 3am night buses that don't arrive until closer to 4pm. Unless we get a bit carried away on a week night, of course...
Not all routes will stay open, but the whole of the Jubilee and Victoria lines and large portions of the Central, Northern and Piccadilly lines will run through the night. If you live near one of the stations included, the only downside we can think of is that this might push your rent up even more. Ah, London.
Here's a map that shows the routes that will run on Friday and Saturday nights from 12th September 2015:
Trains will run approximately every 10 minutes on the Jubilee and Victoria lines.
Central line trains between White City and Leytonstone will also run every 10 minutes; the other parts of the line that are open will run approximately every 20 minutes.
Northern line trains will run every 8 minutes between Morden and Camden Town and around once every 15 minutes from Camden Town to High Barnet/Edgware.
The Piccadilly line will run approximately every 10 minutes between Cockfosters and Heathrow Terminal 5.
TfL also plans to extend the 24-hour service to parts of the Metropolitan, Circle, District and Hammermith & City lines once modernisation work is complete, but has not said when it expects this will be. Parts of the Overground could be included from 2017, and the DLR from 2021.
All good news for us, but bad news for several of our former Tinder dates who will have to figure out a new line now 'we've missed the last Tube, shall we share an Uber?' isn't going to work anymore.
