There’s a fine art to writing a good CV. You’ve got to boast without seeming conceited, come across fun and interesting while showing that you’re totally professional, getting the lie about the time you were president of your year group just right so it’s believable… It’s a logistical nightmare. Or is it?
One guy, Jeff Scardino, decided to submit two different CVs as part of his application for 10 job openings – one being the regular ‘look at me I’m so great’ kind, while the other was straight-up honest, detailing his failures and the things he’s not so good at, like ‘could be more punctual’, ‘worked on three losing pitches’ and ‘have difficulty remembering names’.
He found that the standard CV got him one response, while the ‘relevant résumé’ got him eight responses and five meeting requests. Not too shabby. Why does he think that is?
You can make your own one here. Don’t forget to include your most defining features, such as ‘finds it difficult to have just the one drink’ and ‘creator of the pizzachipbeancheese sandwich’.
