Here’s To Elizabeth Warren, Hillary Clinton And ‘Nasty Women’ Everywhere

Did Elizabeth Warren just nail Donald Trump with his own, gross sexist language?

Here's To Elizabeth Warren, Hillary Clinton And 'Nasty Women' Everywhere

‘Women have had it with guys like you...’ said Elizabeth Warren yesterday, the crowd roared, ‘…and nasty women have really had it with guys like you’. She was of course talking to Donald Trump but she was also speaking, more broadly, about the sort of outdated misogyny, male privilege and sexism which Trump symbolises and speaking on behalf of women everywhere.

Standing alongside Hillary Clinton at a rally in New Hampshire the Massachusetts Warren addressed supporters as she launched a scathing attack on Trump in keeping with her consistent trolling of him on Twitter throughout this election campaign.

Last week Trump hit out at Hillary Clinton during the third presidential debate as she explained her position on income tax. ‘Such a nasty woman’ he said, when she pointed out for the billionth time that he has not made his records publically available.

The world reacted to his ‘nasty woman‘ jibe as you would expect, it’s a phrase which belies Trump’s fundamental distaste for women, particularly when they’re more intelligent, more well prepared and more qualified for a job than him.

Warren turned Trump’s idea of what constitutes ‘nasty’ on its head, reclaiming it and turning it into a battle cry: ‘Get this, Donald. Nasty women are tough, nasty women are smart, and nasty women vote, and on November 8, we nasty women are going to march our nasty feet to cast our nasty votes and get you out of our lives forever.’

Picking up from where Michelle Obama left off Warren went in on Trump, no holds barred:

‘He thinks that because he has money he can call women fat pigs and bimbos’ she said. ‘He thinks because he is a celebrity that he can rate women’s bodies from one to ten. He thinks that because he has a mouthful of Tic Tacs he can force himself on any woman with in groping distance.’

Warren nailed it and in doing so she nailed Trump to his own cross of all the many abhorrent things that he has ever said or done.

As Clinton herself put it Warren ‘gets under [Trump’s] skin like nobody else’ as she took to the stage, indeed their Twitter exchanges have provided some much needed relief as decision day draws closer.

Earlier in the summer, before Warren openly endorsed Clinton over Bernie Sanders there were rumours that she was going to be her running mate, the official candidate for Vice President. It didn’t happen. The fact that Warren is as left wing and progressive, if not more so, than Sanders is one of many reasonswhy it’s unsurprising that she didn’t end up on the ticket. Nonetheless, if Hillary is elected in a few weeks there’s no doubt that Warren will be one of her most vigilant scrutinisers.

If Elizabeth Warren and Hillary Clinton are 'nasty women', then I guess I am one too. Regardless of what you think of Clinton, there’s no denying that seeing two powerful women standing on stage, side by side, and denouncing misogyny is enough to fill you with a bit of hope. There's still got a long way to go, there’s no doubt, but if America can elect a woman this time, for the first time, then perhaps there’s a very real chance that Donald Trump can never ever happen again. He’ll be consigned to the history books, a fossilised relic of what, once, was acceptable. People will read about it with horror, shock and awe. There will be disbelief and nobody will be able to fathom how he was ever, ever allowed to happen.

Warren says 'nasty women vote'. Let's hope they do and let's hope this result comes in on the right side of history.
