A student has disarmed a gunman who killed one person and wounded three others on a university campus in Seattle, Washington. Police have said that Aaron R. Ybarra, 26, was booked into the King County Jail late Thursday for investigation of murder, according to ABC News.

Armed with a shotgun and a knife, the gunman opened fire at a campus building, killing a 19-year-old man, critically injuring a 20-year-old woman, and injuring a 22 and 24 year old, who are in a 'satisfactory' condition. None have as yet been identified.

The gunman was overcome with pepper spray, then several students bravely pinned him down until the police turned up.

'It appears the suspect acted alone,' Assistant Police Chief Paul McDonagh said. 'Initially, there was a report of another person with a weapon, but [investigators] have not confirmed that.'

Investigators are, of course 'working as quickly as we can to figure it out'.

The campus, which still contained students taking their finals, was put on lockdown by university authorities as police investigated the crime scene to make sure there was no further threat.

'There are a number of heroes in this,' McDonagh said. 'The people around [the gunman] stepped up,' just as he was loading another round of ammunition. Interfering means many lives were potentially saved. 'But for the great response by the people of Seattle Pacific, this incident might have been much more tragic.'

The school cancelled classes on Thursday evening and plans a prayer service. This shooting comes two weeks afterthe Isla Vista killings in Santa Barbara.
