Today in really bad decision news, a group of men decided to hang out inside a baited crocodile trap in Australia, just for lols.
The photos of the men spread on social media as people asked why on earth you’d want to play around in a trap with meat in it, dangling in crocodile infested water.
The traps at Port Douglas marina in Queensland were laid around the area after a fatal incident in which authorities believe a 4.3m crocodile killed a 79-year-old dementia sufferer.
'These traps are specifically designed to attract crocodiles and they are deployed in places where a problem crocodile is known to be present,’ a spokesperson from The Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (EHP) said in a statement to ABC News.
‘It is extremely dangerous to interfere with a crocodile trap, regardless of whether or not there is a crocodile within.
‘It is not an exaggeration to say that interfering with crocodile traps can be potentially life-threatening for the person concerned.’
Local mayor Julia Leu seems to be just as surprised as us, she said she’s ‘absolutely gobsmacked’ in an interview with ABC Radio.
‘This is incredibly stupid and dangerous behaviour. I’m wondering if these fellows are vying for the idiots of the year award or the idiots of the century award,’ she told ABC radio.
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves, Julia.

And it’s not just widespread media shaming these these men will have to endure, The Telegraph reports that they may face a hefty $15,000 (£8,800 fine).
What we’re wondering is, can’t anyone resist a photo op anymore? Just last week we reported a totally bizarre incident in Dorset, when a 28-year-old man placed a fish he’d just caught over his mouth as a joke, before it wriggled free and leapt down his throat. We kid you not.
So, next time you think about doing something very dangerous for lols, think again, your mayor might be forced to call you ‘idiot of the year’ on live radio.
