Shonda Rhimes has been breaking our hearts in her ten years writing Grey's Anatomy. We've only just recovered from Denny/George/McSteamy/Lexie dying, that plane crash and saying goodbye to Christina Yang. But this is* Grey's Anatomy,* so just when you think things can't get worse...

If you are one of those people that gets angry with spoilers, stop reading now.

In the episode which aired in the US last night Dr Derek Shephered was killed off. Yep McDreamy is McDead.

All together now: NOOOOOOOO.

When assisting with the aftermath of a car crash, Derek ends up in a car crash himself and gets sent to a hospital without the same standards as the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital (or Seattle Grace to those who didn't make it to season 9). Meredith Grey then has to make the decision to turn off his life support.

Patrick Dempsey said to *Entertainment Weekly *about his exit: "I think it will be very shocking, the way it happens. It’s really going to be powerful. But life is like that. I think any time an original cast member has left, there’s always a void that will never be filled. Shepherd is a beloved character. People don’t want to lose him. He’s been in their lives for over 10 years. But it goes on, and it will evolve."

Meredith Grey really does have a rough time of it. She has lost her mother, sister, husband, best friend and dog. She has had her hand on a bomb, almost drowned, watched her husband get shot, had a miscarriage, was in a plane crash and went into labour in a power cut.
