When faced with certain death, most of us would panic and quiver and crawl into the nearest hole so we could cry and cry and cry. Not Grandma Betty, though. Despite fighting a losing battle to lung cancer, the 80-year-old American is now a sensation on Instagram after her grandson, Zach Simpson, set up an account for her to document her dying days on.

It might sound a bit of a bumout, but grandmabetty33’s (that’s the year she was born in, 1933!) Insta-gran videos are just very cheering and sweet without being overtly twee.

Three weeks ago, a video was uploaded of her dancing away to Pharrell Williams’ Happy, in celebration of her having 2,500 followers. The video was just so sweet it went Insta-viral and now has 17,000 likes.

One day ago, Pharrell himself found out about her, and re-grammed a photo of her, along with the caption ‘Let’s help @grandmabetty33 get to 100K followers! All the love and support on her Instagram account brings a smile to her face as she fights cancer. Happiness is a human right. Let’s keep @grandmabetty33 smiling

Did she get 100k followers? And the rest - at last count she had 189k followers, with support from Pharrell’s pal Cara Delevingne definitely helping. We can see why.
