Every year Apple hosts two mega Keynotes events in which the tech giant announces all of the new technologies that they plan on rolling out over the coming months. However, this latest announcement will come as a surprise to anyone using an iPhone 5 or older

As first reported by Forbesthe next major iOS update 10.3.2 will render many Apple devices, including the iPhone 5/5C and iPad devices older than the iPadMini 2, useless.

What makes this update so unusual is that it is the first time that Apple will be cutting off support for many of their devices mid-cycle before a major version change. This time the change is centred around the latest system operating update rather than a new model being dropped.

The reason that your older iPhones may no longer work is that under this new update the new iOS requires that an iPhone has a 64-bit processor, and both the iPhone 5 and 5c only have half of that at 32 bits each.

This update could also indicate that Apple is no longer going to guarantee support for their devices throughout a full iOS generation and that this support may be cut off at any point, which isn't the best news for iPhone users that don't upgrade to the latest model every year.

If like us you're wondering just how many users this latest update will affect, then the number is probably quite high. Whilst Apple has never disclosed all of their sales figures, the iPhone 5 did reportedly make the company a cool $90 million, so we can assume that the original model was pretty popular consumers - and that a lot of people will not be happy with this latest update.
