Football’s Biggest Bigwig To Miss Women’s World Cup Final

You know how the head of FIFA is in serious trouble? The US authorities are now investigating racketeering and bribery charges and looking to find out how on earth Qatar and Russia managed to get the rights to host the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

The upswing of this? The Women’s World Cup, an important event (that England could win!) will be missed by Sepp Blatter, president of FIFA. His general secretary Jerome Vlacke, also missed the opening ceremony of the games, despite being confirmed to attend. Blatter’s lawyer told the BBC this was ‘due to their current commitments in Zurich’. But something tells us the women’s game might not actually suffer from their absence.

Because as well as all of the alleged crimes and stuff, Blatter once said, in public, to an audience, that women football players should wear ‘tighter shorts’ so that more men would watch them play. He also employs hardly any women.

Plus, thanks to FIFA, the entire Women’s World Cup is being played on dangerous artificial turf pitches while men’s teams are afforded the luxury of real turf when they play.

And to round that all off, FIFA.com, the official site of the Women’s World Cup, wrote this to describe American player Alex Morgan: ‘a talented goal scorer with a style that is very easy on the eye and good looks to match, she is nothing short of a media phenomenon.’

Perhaps Blatter can sit at home and have a good long think about the sort of association he’s running.
