The FBI have finally identified the masked executioner known as 'Jihadi John', and the daughter of murdered aid worker David Haines has given her first interview.
'They can't be doing this to people and get away with it. No matter what nationality, if they're western or not. Hundreds of Syrians have been killed by them and they need to be stopped,' said 17-year-old Bethany Haines today.
David Haines was the first Briton to be beheaded on video by ISIS, the militant Islamic extremists who have waged a war against the western world. He was an aid worker, and dedicated his life to helping those in need. There were two earlier videos, both involving Americans.
'I don't know if ... [Islamic State are] trying to prolong people's pain ... or they don't feel they need to do it. But as a daughter of someone that's been killed you want closure. As a family you want closure,' she told ITV News. 'I know some people have been making jokes about it and even sharing the video. In my eyes, you're just as bad as the people who did it. It's not on and I'm pretty sure the government will fully back that.'
There was a lot of controversy over the media coverage of the video, which showed David Haines reciting words apparently prompted to him off camera before displaying his body after the beheading. Many believed the video shouldn't have been shown on TV, and stills shouldn't have been published, as it both provoked anti-Muslim anger and must have been incredibly distressing for his family.
