The future is bright, the future is… all video. According to Facebook’s vice president of European, Middle Eastern and African operations, Nicola Mendelsohn, Facebook ‘will be probably all video’.
According to Quartz, she also said that ‘The best way to tell stories in this world, where so much information is coming at us, actually is video. It conveys so much more information in a much quicker period. So actually the trend helps us to digest much more information.’ This comes as Facebook roll out their 360 degree photo function alongside their 360 degree video which already exists..
Mendelsohn went on to say that ‘We’re seeing a year-on-year decline of text’. Does that mean the future is one of gifs and videos and pictures? A picture may well say a thousand words but actually, we’re not sure we're into the idea of video overtaking words and, tbh, it sounds a little complicated.
Also, the noise! Will there be noise? Or are we talking about noiseless video? How do you convey what you're trying to say? Will we all become mime artists, acting out our conversations rather than writing them?
That's it isn't it? We're all going to become part-time mime artists. That will be everyone's 'slash'. And don't even get us started on how hectic our newsfeeds will be with nothing but video on it. Basically, what the hell, Facebook?
