Facebook has come a very long way from its humble beginnings as rather creepy network for students to hunt down eligible peers on their campus. And the latest development from Mark Zuckerberg (as well as the 'dislike' button we're promised is finally coming our way) is moving profile pictures. Yup - you can now give your profile a GIF-over.

The mobile update means you can upload a 7-second video to play on loop, and like Instagram videos, you can switch the sound on or off - the latter being helpful for when you're snooping on your crush at work.

Facebook confirmed the news with a blog post, explaining: 'You’ll be able to film a short, looping video clip that will play for anyone who visits your profile.' Gotchya. They also posted the video below:

The social network has announced further new functionalities for you to show off your best angles, which will roll out over the next few months. You'll be able to add five 'featured' photos to sit at the top of your profile, and your profile pic will now be positioned in the centre of the page.

Further more, there will be the option to add temporary profile pictures which will disappear after a certain amount of time (a la Snapchat) before reverting to your normal profile photo.

Of course there's the option to stick with your static profile picture - so it's no sweat for those who are FB purists.

But, in case you are keen to post your first FB video* and* nail it - we'll hand over to model Ilona Ecott to school you the perfect 7-second pose-off...
