Fans of Facetime have been waiting patiently for Apple to develop the three-way video function but it seems Facebook have gone and beaten them to it. In fact, they’ve gone a step further.

From today you will be able to make video calls via the Facebook messenger app with up to six other people. The service is available on both iOS and Android devices, and is completely free to use if you’re connected to wifi.

As well as the six video users you can invite up to fifty, yes fifty, other people to the group who can contribute via voice as well as send text, stickers, emojis and GIFs.

Starting a group video chat is super simple. Simply click the icon in the top right corner to enable the video function. Friends in the chat can then also click the icon to join in.

Keeping in touch with friends and family this Christmas couldn't be easier.
