Facebook have officially upped the tech game…again. This time in the form of the new chat pot API for Facebook messenger and is currently just for devlopers. Facebook's aim is to create one-on-one conversations between their users and companies, to expand it’s reach in customer service. .
The chatbots will serve as robotic customer service reps, with weather updates, news and retail company services. Essentially anything that can help users carry out every day tasks, such as online purchases and mundane things like booking that cinema ticket you can’t be bothered to do on your lunch break. Shopify (an online commerce site) and CNN are already partnered with the new chat bot app.
Mark Zuckerbergspoke about the bots during the Facebook annual developer conference in San Francisco, stating: 'You’ll never have to call 1-800-flowers again,' illustrating how technology, Facebook in particular, is fast growing into a one-size-fits-all shop. Being a space to share viral videos and write on your best friends wall isn’t enough anymore, and Zuckerberg wants Facebook to be forever relevant to this new tech-obsessed world we currently inhabit.
The idea of a chat bot is interesting, think of it as a personal shopper you can carry everywhere with you. Simply type into the CNN section ‘what’s going on today?’ and a whole host of information will be available on your screen. Sounds handy, doesn’t it?
The features are available for developers as of today, but we’re hoping they become a universally used feature, ASAP.
