Facebook Announces Emojis Instead Of ‘Dislike’ Button

Mark Zuckerberg had said he’d be looking into the dislike button, but maybe these are cuter?

Facebook Announces Emojis Instead Of ‘Dislike’ Button

Remember when Mark Zuckerberg said that there’d be a ‘dislike’ button on Facebook for those times when someone puts up a status about, say, their dog dying, or being locked out of their house?

Well, it caused a bit of an uproar and maybe he’s taken that on because he’s now announced the new ‘reactions’ you’ll be able to put underneath a status. And here they are:

Coming in an emoji format, the most negative ones are ‘sad’ and ‘angry’ and the most positive is ‘love’. The love heart looks a little bit like the Instagram heart but our utter favourite is the rosy-cheeked ‘yay’. They’re all very cute but it’s been long in the making, with Mark explaining: ‘We’ve spent a lot of time thinking about the best way to give you better options for expressing yourself, while keeping the experience simple and respectful. Today we’re starting to test this.’

Meet the new Reactions.

‘We’re starting to test Reactions in Ireland and Spain and will learn from this before we bring the experience to everyone. We hope you like this – or can better express how you’re feeling!’

We’ll see what happens in Ireland and Spain – interesting countries to pick to go first, don’t you think? Maybe it’s because they’ve got none of the stiff-upper lip us Brits might have to get in the way of tapping on a ‘yay’ face to get our emotion across – think of the reactions.

Hopefully it’s a thumbs up, it’d be nice to have a way of responding to friends’ crap news with something more than a ‘like’.
