Last night Mark Zuckerberg and the Facebook crew announced some pretty big changes that’ll be all up in your timeline fairly soon. Here’s the lowdown on what’s, erm, going down.
**Companies will message you **
Hmm, we’re a bit freaked out by this one, tbh, because apparently when you sign in to buy stuff online with Facebook, that company will be able to message you to confirm the purchase rather than dropping you an email. Which won’t be annoying at all. Also, the thought of a shop being able to message us makes us feel all weird.
You will be able to reply with GIFs
That’s more like it. Facebook Messenger will work alongside outside apps like Giphy, allowing you to quickly reply with hilarious GIFs when words don’t seem enough. Before now, you’ve had to close the app then copy and paste – but no more! Hooray.
**Facebook videos can be embedded elsewhere online **
Right now, you can only share a Facebook video somewhere else on the internet by linking to it, but now you’ll be able to embed the whole thing like a YouTube video.
Comments on articles will appear on Facebook
When you comment on an article, that comment will magically appear underneath the post on Facebook – which seems a bit baffling, but should stop you writing creepy weird shit underneath articles about Harry Styles. Not that you do, obviously.
**Videos are going to be compatible with Oculus **
If you’ve got a 360° headset (the Oculus is basically virtual reality – Google it), you’ll be able to watch Facebook videos with it and create a whole third dimension. Imagine it – that cat won’t just be falling over on your screen, it’ll be like you’re right there with it, watching it fall over before your very eyes.
Obviously, this requires you to buy an Oculus headset, and will only work with videos shot using 360° technology. It won’t just jump out at you when you’re least expecting it.
