****Happy birthday to Emma Watson who turns 25 today! Emma is one talented lady, and at only 25, we cannot believe how much she has already ticked off her to do list. Emma has spent her year as a 24-year-old, acting in some huge films and as a UN ambassador (no big deal) and has remained our ultimate style guru in the process. So, in celebration of Em’s special day (and to encourage us to get our skates on - we haven’t even landed one movie role yet) we’re taking a look at why this past year has been her best yet.
March 2014: Noah premieres
Emma starred alongside Russell Crowe, Logan Lerman and Douglas Booth in film Noah. The actress wowed us fashion-wise as she toured the world promoting the film and attending the premiers. Emma's red carpet style was on top form in March, as was her hair. The star wasn't afraid to experiment with different styles, opting for a slicked back look in Berlin, an up do in New York and wearing it to the side in Madrid. We're officially obsessed.
**May 2014: Graduated from Ivy league university, Brown.
**
After briefly defferring her studies for a few semesters (and popping into Oxford as a 'visiting student' in the meantine), Emma graduated from Brown with a degree in English Literature. Emma posted a cap and gown selfie to Twitter, captionning the snap with a single exclamation mark.
July 2014: Paris Fashion Week FROW Fest
Front row at the Valentino, Giambattista Valli and Christian Dior shows, Emma upped the fashion stakes yet again in Paris. Emma's all black looks were mature and exciting, and a far cry from her Hermione Grainger days.
**September 2014: HeForShe Speech
**
Emma delivered a powerful speech as the UN Women Global Goodwill Ambassador during a special HeForShe Event on gender equality.“In my nervousness for this speech and my moments of doubt, I’ve told myself firmly, ‘If not me, who? If not now, when?'" she said. Emma called on men to get involved in campaigning for gender equality, with both men and women being affected by sexism. “When at 15, my girlfriends started dropping out of their beloved sports teams, because they didn’t want to appear muscle-y, when at 18, my male friends were unable to express their feelings, I decided that I was a feminist.” Emma kicked sexist ass, and after her speech, everyone from Harry Styles to Jared Leto got involved with posting #HeForShe photos on Twitter.
November 2014: British Artist of the Year at the BAFTA Britannia Awards
Emma scooped the British Artist of the Year award at BAFTA Britannia. Known for her excellent speeches, this time Emma dedicated the award to her late hamster, Millie.
December 2014: British Fashion Awards
Emma was a deserving winner of the Best British Style Award at the British Fashion Awards 2014 and was presented with the award by a certain Mr Styles.
January 2015: Emma Raises Her Twitter game
“Become an engineer.” Already a role model to women and men everywhere, the feminist hero dished out some of the best advice ever to her fans.
January 2015: Becomes a Disney princess IRL
Emma has been cast to play Belle in Disney's live action remake of classic fairytale *Beauty and the Beast. *Whilst cast announcements are still surprising us everyday, we do know that Emma will star alongside Downton Abbey's Dan Stevens, who is set to play the beast. Other cast members include Ian McKellen, Emma Thompson Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Kevin Kline and Audra McDonald.
February 2015: Confirmed she was NOT dating Prince Harry
In the classiest way possible, Emma denied those Prince Harry dating rumours."World. Remember that little talk we had about not believing everything written in the media?!" she wrote, before sharing a video of a scene from A Little Princess*, *proving the point that you don't need a prince to be a princess.
**March 2015: International Womens Day Live Stream **
Speaking to Radio 1's Greg James, Emma took a more personal approach to the discussion of the HeForShe campaign, in a livestream that was watched by hundreds of thousands of fans. "If you stand for equality, you are a feminist" she said, it's that simple. Emma spoke about the necessity of recruiting men to the feminist cause, her single mother, and, bravely, about women needing to support each other too. We're right behind you Emma. Happy birthday!
