After proving her modelling clout by starring on numerous mag covers and walking for Marc Jacobs, Eliza Cummings has now made her way into the music world, with a starring role in Bryan Ferry's new video.
The song 'Johnny and Mary' is a cover of the '80s track by Robert Palmer, and with its electro-pop beat, it wouldn't sound out of place on the Drive soundtrack.
Eliza isn't the only up and comer Bryan worked with on the song, DJ Todd Terje produced the track after the pair met in Oslo and got on famously. He explains: “I have always liked Robert Palmer’s beautiful song ‘Johnny & Mary’ with its haunting lyrics… Initially we tried it fast like the original, but later Terje gave it a different slower feel, which was much better. I played some piano on this version which I hope compliments Terje’s futuristic programming. It is a real pleasure to collaborate with such a rising talent.”
The video was directed by Brantley Gutierrez and was put together by Bryan's son Isaac Ferry, and sees Eliza star in a dreamy black and white sequence which takes her from country to city, wearing some very chic monochrome looks along the way. Here's what she had to tell us about her latest gig...
Grazia Daily: How was it working with Bryan Ferry and his son Isaac Ferry?
Eliza: Me and Bryan were shot at different times so we only really crossed paths as we had separate scenes. But Isaac Ferry oversaw the shooting of the video so we worked very closely together throughout the whole shoot. He is a great guy and very talented at what he does. I love the outcome of the video.
Grazia Daily: Had you met Bryan before?
Eliza: No but I have seen him since I have been back in Lodnon, and of course have spent time with Isaac.
Grazia Daily: Have you done a music video before?
Eliza: No never before, but I would definitely like to again. It's a different type of experience and way of working than being shot by a photographer for a magazine or campaign. It's much more time consuming as there are more rules in place to get the right moving image.
Grazia Daily: Who else would you like to do a video with?
Eliza: I would love to do a Prince video, that would be the ultimate dream!
Grazia Daily: Your dog Niki had a cameo role in the video, how did she end up being in the video?
Eliza: It wasn’t planned at all, I just brought Niki along with me on the shot day and Isaac wanted to include her in the video so they ended up filming her for some of the shots. I think she looks great and works well with the black and white of the video being an all-black do!
Grazia Daily: How different is it being in a video as apposed to being shot in still images for a magazine?
Eliza: It's more intense filming and it's much more time consuming as there are more rules in place to get the right moving image. It's a great new experience to take in and use for future.
Grazia Daily: The video was shot in LA, are you a fan?
Eliza: I love LA, I love the lifestyle, it has a lot to offer and the vibe is upbeat and the way of life is focused around health, fitness and well being so makes you feel great.
