We learned a few weeks ago that Patrick Dempsey, aka McDreamy, is in the final negotiations to join the cast of *Bridget Jones’s Baby, according to Deadline. And now we know the rumours are true!
Fans of Dempsey, best known for his role as the dreamy doctor in* Gray's Anatomy,* will be delighted that he's returning to screens - and that he could be playing Bridget's potential love interest! Although obviously we're team Mark Darcy all the way.
Patrick confirmed the news on Instagram, alongside this message:
“Nice to be working in England. Renee and Colin are an absolute joy to work with! A good couple of days rehearsing at Pinewood Studios. I really like it here!”
While details of his role have been kept under wraps, we know that Colin Firth is returning to the film franchise to play Mark Darcy, and Renee Zellweger is returning as Bridget - but Hugh Grant will NOT be coming back - meaning there's a space for a potential love rival. But of course, nothings's been announced yet.
The story of the film is thought to be based on columns written by Bridget Jones author Helen Fielding, not her latest novel, *Mad About The Boy.
*The news comes as Ed Sheeran was reported to be appearing in the film last month.
Earlier, we wrote...
Last time we saw Bridget Jones on screen in 2004 she mostly soundtracked her life to Madonna - that prison scene anyone? - but fast-forward to 2015 and it seems Ed Sheeran is Bridge's jam of choice.
Word has it that a scene for forthcoming third movie, Bridget Jones's Baby, will feature a cameo from Ed Sheeran.* The Mirror* reports that a film crew for the movie were spotted shooting a scene at Ed's Croke Park concert last month.
The Sun suggests a stunt double for Renee Zellweger was used to avoid arousing suspicion from the crowds during a scene in which Bridget rides on the shoulder of a mystery man. Get in Bridge!
A source told The Sun: “There was no risk in filming Renee at a busy gig. But they knew the cat would be out the bag the minute people saw her at the show. Renee’s body double and the cameramen were in and out of the crowd as quickly as possible.
“These are the first moments in early filming for the new movie. None of the show’s main talent have been involved yet."
Late last year rumours circulated that the movie, thought to be based on Fielding's columns from eight years ago - not her recent Mad About The Boy novel - would begin filming this autumn.
Eric Fellner, co-chairman of production company Working Title, told the Daily Mail: "We are keen to try to make it later this year, but there's still nothing definite yet." And while Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth are thought to be poised to return to their roles as , there'll be a noticeable absence from Hugh Grant, who confirmed last year that he wouldn't be reprising his role as love rat Daniel Clever.
"I decided not to do it," Hugh said in an interview with Free Radio in the Midlands. "But I think they’re going to go ahead and do it without Daniel. The book’s excellent, by the way, but the script is completely different – well, the script as I last saw it a few years ago."
Cue a thousand bad boy-loving hearts breaking.
