Douchebag Says Women’s Football Will Be More Popular Because Players Wear Make-up

Meet Marco Aurelio Cunha. He's the co-ordinator for Women's Soccer in the Confederation Of Brazilian Football and he's said a few choice things that people aren't too happy about.

ICYMI, the Women's World Cup is going on at the moment in Canada. If you *hadn't *noticed well then, that's probably not your fault. Men's football is still much bigger in terms of publicity and sponsorship with many of the international female players holding down full-time jobs on the side. Which is cool. Imagine Wayne Rooney clocking off on Sunday afternoons before heading home to get ready for Monday morning at the office. Doesn't quite make sense, does it?

Anyways, back to Marco Aurelio Cunha. Being the chap in charge of Women's Football in Brazil, you'd imagine he's got some great ideas on how to help promote the female side of the sport right? Wrong. When a sports development consultant claimed last week that there was no interest in the game and therefore sponsors would stay away, Cunha weighed in protesting that things might be about to change. Because of the women's appearances. 'Now the women are getting more beautiful, putting on make-up. They go in the field in an elegant manner,” he said to Canada's The Globe and Mail. 'Women’s football used to copy men’s football. Even the jersey model, it was more masculine. We used to dress the girls as boys. So the team lacked a spirit of elegance, femininity. Now the shorts are a bit shorter, the hair styles are more done up. It’s not a woman dressed as a man.'

COME ON LADIES. Why didn't we think about this sooner? All those times we chose to play sports and workout in comfortable clothes that helped us move more easily, we REALLY should have been thinking about how to look more attractive to men so we could pull in sponsorship money for our chosen sports. Everything seems so much clearer now. Thank you, Marco.

Obviously the players aren't exactly overjoyed by Cunha's comments with former US International star Julie Foudy claiming that 'much has to change in Brazil for women to be accepted as soccer players.' Here's hoping that change is on the cards soon.
