Donald Trump’s son and namesake, Donald Trump Jr., has just posted a controversial - to say the least - meme to Twitter, comparing Syrian refugees to poisoned sweets and insinuating that America shouldn’t allow any in.

The offensive analogy blew up into social media outrage, with users posting distressing and wrenching images of Syrians in the midst of brutal civil war - with the caption: Skittles.

Barack Obama’s former speechwriter, Jon Favreau, also jellyfish-stung DT Jr.’s tweet with the heartbreaking image of the burned Aleppo boy, Omran, seen around the world.

Religious scholar Reza Aslan thought it was pretty shitty

John Legend poignantly pointed out the hypocrisy of Donald Jr.’s Skittle statement

Others tweeted comparing Syrian refugees to Jewish refugees escaping the clutches of the Holocaust, in order to emphasise their point.

It seems according to Wrigley’s, the makers of Skittles, not all publicity is good publicity as they refused to get pulled into Trump Jr.’s sickening sinkhole, saying in a statement: ‘Skittles are candy. Refugees are people. We don’t feel it’s an appropriate analogy.

‘We will respectfully refrain from further commentary as anything we say could be misinterpreted as marketing.’ - Says it all, I suppose.
