Dog Grooming Has Gone Insane

Remember the recent trend of dogs being groomed to make their heads entirely square?

Well the world of pooch grooming has just been taken to a whole new level of crazy with the Extreme Grooming Contest in New Jersey. And this year’s entries certainly don’t disappoint.

They say the dog matches its owner and, hilariously, most of the owners seem to be sporting their own quirky hairdos – could you imagine seeing these pairs casually strolling down the street with neon hair and a Katy Perry shark shaved into the dogs’ fur? From Maleficent to an alien panda-dog (a phrase I never thought I’d have to write) feast your eyes on these expressions of dog grooming… umm… creativity? Actually, more like insanity.

The Shark Panda-Dog With Yellow Afro1 of 6

The Shark Panda-Dog With Yellow Afro

See what I mean about pets and owners? This groomer has given her dog a similar yellow, white and black hairdo to hers, but then gone for an odd homage to the Katy Perry dancing shark on its rear. We also have a random red splodge on it's side and zebra stripes on the rest of its body. Literally cannot work out what the look was supposed to be or inspired by but it's certainly memorable.

Move Over Angelina- The Malificent Dog2 of 6

Move Over Angelina- The Malificent Dog

The evil witch who gate-crashed the party and messed everything up with a curse in Sleeping Beauty was recently played by the stunning Angelina Jolie. But this dog is fierce competition for the crowning glory of the best Malificent ever. We're not sure who would win the 'who wore it best' contest but the purple eyebrows, patchy lime green face paint and dodgy topknot might just give this dog the edge.

The Hippie Multicoloured Dog3 of 6

The Hippie Multicoloured Dog

This poor, poor dog. Look at the pain and horror in its eyes. This owner wasn't quite sure which colour or theme to go with so she just went with... this. I'm pretty sure the massive orange spikes are meant to be a flower because that would make sense with the roses and the butterfly so it could be a garden theme? But then there's the stick-on gems on its face, the angry skull shaved on to its chest, the bow tie and the purple ears and that logic goes out the window. We hope this monstrosity is only temporary.

The Snow White Dog4 of 6

The Snow White Dog

We all love fairytales and there's no question that Snow White is a classic, but this really doesn't mean the characters need to be painted on to this unwitting dog. To be fair, this one is the most artistic because the drawings are pretty realistic, but it is still bonkers. Here we see Snow White herself, sleepy, dopey and angry so we hope she can squeeze in the rest of the crew on the other side.

The Rainbow Pom-Pom Dog5 of 6

The Rainbow Pom-Pom Dog

This dog looks straight off a Fendi catwalk and like it's been covered in the designer fur bags and accessories. This dog is clearly aware how stylish it is and is probably quite chuffed. Weirdly though, the owner is so focused on shaping its fur into these bizarre layers that she has forgotten to trim back the hair around its eyes so the poor pooch can actually see properly. Although this actually might be a blessing in disguise, as the poor pooch would get a nasty shock if it ever saw its own reflection.

The Pleased As Punch Smurf Dog6 of 6

The Pleased As Punch Smurf Dog

Judging by the look on this dog's face, it has always dreamed of having green hind legs, a Smurf-blue face and a red bottom. It looks like it has had an unfortunate encounter with a toddler with a crayon set so we're not sure why it looks so pleased but each to their own. The green quiff also adds a nice touch.
