Spanish teens have reportedly been involved in a new craze referred to as ‘sex roulette’. The incredibly high risk sex game involves a mass orgy, whereby people engage in unprotected sex with individuals without knowing whether they have HIV.
What?
This particular 'game' is described as an orgy unlike any other. Participants agree to the sex game, invite one or more ‘secret’ HIV carriers and engage in high risk carnal activity. The HIV carrier remains unidentifiable throughout and this is apparently where the adventure and or pleasure lies for the individuals involved. There are some rules however, many parties only involve carriers of the virus and few offer non-prescription blue tablets, which supposedly prevent the virus from spreading to other persons.
Psychosexual therapist Kate Moorley told Dazed that, 'Going to sex roulette parties is about the risk, partygoers think the higher the risk, the stronger the thrill.' She reckons that the adrenaline rush is reached by combining orgasms with the incredibly high danger factor. Obviously, the thrill is very short lived as there are long term risks. HIV is, as everyone knows, a lifelong disease and though sufferers have been proven to live long, happy and healthy lives the virus is not something to play around with.
According to stats from the World Health Organisation 24% of 15-25 year olds are not afraid of HIV, something which may well be a factor behind the growth of this 'game' . As you may know, the virus is often indeterminate for a few months in tests and so the hazards to your health, and others' could be even higher. First dubbed a worrying trend in Barcelona by Equinox Magazine, the craze has also been linked with a major rise in other sexual diseases including chlamydia and gonorrhoea.
Basically, do not try this at home.
