Welcome to our new franchise, A Day In The Life, where we look at what really goes on in a working day for different women working in creative industries. First up is Katie Ford. Katie is the communications coordinator for everyone’s favourite sstationery company, Ohh Deer. Her role includes managing their PR, media and events, meeting with press and their strong list of influencers, organising product placements and media coverage. So, a lot! She also manages their Instagram account, and is taking over our account today so be sure to check it out. Here’s what a day in the life of a stationery PR looks like.

I start my day in my creative corner. Keeping a watchful eye on our Instagram while writing notes to be sent out with gifts to well-known bloggers. I graduated from Nottingham Trent University where I studied Fashion Communication & Promotion, then worked as a PR and marketing assistant for a fashion brand. Six months ago I was offered this role – I still pinch myself now.

It's always important to have regular catch ups with the design team to see what they're working on and to see which publications are best suited to new products. The creative team are always designing and developing new products too so I don’t think I could ever get bored – whenever new samples arrive in the office it’s hard not to get excited!

A quick coffee stop is always needed. This one is during a meeting to plan a collaboration with a familiar face. That’s all I can give away I’m afraid, but keep your eyes peeled. There are a lot of aspects about my job that I love, but one of my favourites would be meeting so many wonderful people on a daily basis. You have to be a people person to work in PR.

This was taken during an interview for our Youtube Channel that Vanessa (Ohh Deer's online content & marketing coordinator) and I did with one of our lovely illustrators Amelie Barnathan in London. It’s unbelievable how far Ohh Deer has come in such a short space of time across all platforms, so much so that out flagship store will be opening this summer. It’s an amazing brand to work for, everyone's so passionate.

Here I am attempting a flatlay whilst attending ’ The Bloggers Market' in Holborn. My biggest tip for anyone looking for a job in PR is to keep organised. I plan events and meetings as far ahead as I can and record any mistakes along the way so I can learn from them. Oh, and try to be persistent and original with pitches, journalists are bombarded with pitches and new products so find a different angle and always follow up. It’s daunting at first, but you’ll realise how important it is later on.

I think someone might be tired after a long day. This is my Cockapoo, Pippa, snoozing under my desk at work, it's great being able to bring her to work with me occasionally. Although it’s probably quite distracting for us all…
