When it comes to things we like to do when we’re mildly hungover and looking for a little bit of someone else’s heartbreak to make us feel better about our own headache, watching videos of failed marriage proposals does the trick. However, we’re almost quite happy there’s not a video of the latest marriage proposal fail, because it actually put people’s lives in danger.
A Dutch man thought it would be fun to be hoisted up on a crane and then dangled in front of his girlfriend, where he would sing a song to her through the (hopefully open) window and then ask the big question. However, the crane toppled over into the building, smashing their neighbours’ roof in.
Luckily, the man was safe, and no one got hurt. And the bride-to-be said yes! So they answered a few questions to their local police – in the town of Ijsselstein, near Utrecht – and went on their merry way to Paris for a romantic celebration of their impending nuptials.
However, the story doesn’t end there, reports the Algemeen Dagblad paper via* Associated Press*. A bigger crane was brought in to lift up the crashed one, but the smaller crane fell again, destroying whatever was left of the neighbours’ roof. Six apartments have now been declared unsafe.
Something tells us that, even if the newly-engaged couple will have had a wonderful weekend away, the happy couple’s neighbours are going to be quite so ecstatic about the weekend’s events.
