It's awards season central right now, but move over Golden Globes and Oscars (well, for today at least), because we're all about the bookish prizes right now. And the first of this year's accolades has been announced with the Costa Book Awards 2014 Category Winners.

The winners including Ali Smith with her book How to be both which scooped the Costa Novel Award; Emma Healey who won the Costa First Novel Award for her break-out Elizabeth is Missing; year-long favourite Helen Macdonald with H is for Hawk, which took the Costa Biography Award; Jonathan Edwards who won the Costa Poetry Award with his debut collection, My Family and Other Superheroes and Kate Saunders who got Costa Children’s Book Award for Five Children on the Western Front - an inventive sequel to E Nesbit’s Five Children and It.

The perfect way to kick off a year of good reads if we do say so ourselves.
