Cory Monteith's father has spoken out about his son on the first anniversary of the Glee star's death.

Monteith, who was best known for his role as Finn Hudson in the hit TV show Glee, was found dead aged 31 in his hotel room in Vancouver.

Remembering his son a year after his untimely death, Cory's father, Joe Monteith, said in an interview on ET Canada that Cory was 'a likeable young man and if he was in the room, you'd be smiling," he added. "He enjoyed life. That's why I was so shocked about the outcome of everything.'

'I still miss him very much and I still have the empty feeling inside.'

Joe Monteith was estranged from his son and so wasn't sent details of his funeral – something he regrets. 'I didn't get to go to his viewing, which, it would have meant a lot.'

Mr Monteith also had a message for Cory's Glee co-star girlfriend, Lea Michele. 'She's a beautiful young woman, she's just getting to the top of her career and I don't expect her to go out and do it alone,' he said.

'She should enjoy life. She had a good time when she was with Cory, from what I understand, but life's gotta go on.'
